Give us a short history of your team
Canberra gave birth to F-Troop in 2016. It all began with a bunch of mates wanting to run around and toss the frisbee together. What started as mini on Saturday mornings to keep fit over winter quickly became the coolest invite-only pick-up game Canberra had ever seen. With the mixed season gearing up, some smart cookie suggested that a team be formed and F-Troop was born. The line-up changed tournament to tournament but always preserved the good vibes of those early morning sessions
In 2017, things had to change, overwhelming interest in the club meant holding tryouts for the first time as well as the birth of G-Troop. With a significantly older age demographic and a core of players looking beyond AMUC to u24s and WUCC the team has had a much clearer focus on high performance this year, though despite any elite aspirations the good vibes remain central to everything we do.
What are your goals for the tournament?
1. Heck yeh.
2. Re loudest team - Laura Emerson will be going ham for day 1 and then lose her voice after which, absolutely not.
3. Re the party - Will be looking to get carried to victory by Abbie Dawson, Clare Barcham and Bill Foreman though they will have some heavy lifting to do.
How would you sum up your team in 3 words?
Fun, fit, deluded.
Who should we be looking out for?
Who to look for: Dan Mathews-Hunter, Hannah Mangan and Kyle Mitchell. Seriously though if anyone sees them on the Friday please point them in our direction.
Aussie reps: Most notably David McManus, but it’s a whole different running technique on grass so we aren’t sure if it counts
Breakthrough rookies: Liz Edye has shown a lot of promise in the last few seasons and this may finally be her year to show the rest of Australia that winning div 3 north side league in 2004 wasn’t a fluke.
Cool story/iconic fashion sense: I hear Abbie Dawson’s snapchat story is on point and David McManus’ socks are always worth a geez.
Who are you most looking forward to playing?
Max Stenstrom: I’ve never played mixed nats so I’m psyched about that.
What do you think of the 'endzone decides' rules?
The team had a chat about the different rules. Essentially, our women are kind of freaking awesome at frisbee so we only call four men sometimes.
If your team was stranded on a desert island and you could only take one other team from AMUC, which would it be and why?
VLS, they have the biggest roster so there are more of them to eat.
