NZMUC 2017 Preview:

By team captain

This year, Huckasaurus Rex and the Foreign Legion crew have combined into a team with a far more palatable name. How will this new, easier-to-pronounce identity serve them at NZMUC 2017?

Team name

Give us a short history of your team

Last year the team Huckasaurus Rex finished at the top of the bottom (17th).  The team struggled for numbers and was looking to elevate themselves to the next level.  Combining with members of the Foreign Legion crew, the new mixed ultimate club "Flex" was created in 2017.
If you're a returning team, who's in and who's out from last years (or previous years) side?
The team is largely the same, with a few players from Dunedin removed from the crew.  Through our open training/recruitment we've added in a few people who were new to Auckland.

What are your goals for the tournament?
We know that we're not going to win this tournament, but we still want to play good ultimate. We know our game plan, and we want to stick too it. If we can manage that, we should be able to secure a spot in the top 16.

How would you sum up your team in 3 words?

Inclusive, growing, and FLEXible.

Who should we be looking out for?

One of our male top cutters, James Holth is a recent import from Wellington and is quickly rising to the top of team. Another new edition, Nicole Svendson has proven she can catch pretty much anything and can be counted on to handle as well (part of the reason she was selected for the NZ U20 team).

Who are you most looking forward to playing?

Last year we played the UCUC Honeybadgers in our 1st game (as Huckasaurus).  It was a game we felt slipped away from us, as we couldn't match UCUC's pace.  This year they are in our pool once again, and we're looking to even things up!

What do you think of the 'endzone decides' rules?

I love it as it provides more balance within the game (some teams might continuously be on defense).  Hasn't impacted our game plan/roster at all.  We're still struggling to recruit women at the moment and given our tryout numbers, we've structured our team to have a preference of 4M3F.
In the event of a zombie apocalypse, which team do you think would be the first to go, and why? And who would you team up with?
Mix Tape would have to be the first to go, because I think their average age is 40.  (that being said, they still crush us everytime we play).  Would have to team up with AUUC, there's so many of them and they are all so fast, I'm sure a few of them would be willing to carry our team to safety.
