AMUC Div 1 Preview:

Melbourne Empire (VIC)

By team captain

Melbourne club Heads of State recently branched out into the mixed and womens divisions. Will their results match their fabled bant? Only time will tell...

Team name

Melbourne Empire

Give us a short history of your team
Named after a line from a CAKE song, HoS was born as a juniors club in 2006 during a long, late night expedition to the Pancake Parlour in Melbourne. They proposed an adventurous 5 year plan to win Nationals; as we all know, it took them 9 years. HoS now has men's, women's and mixed.
If you're a returning team, who's in and who's out from last years (or previous years) side?
Only returning players are Katie Lock & Jane Wong. Simon Talbot is still a strong presence within the club.

What are your goals for the tournament?
Jemma Riddoch is celebrating her 21st birthday just before the tournament; we just want to make this a fun tournament for her. Happy birthday Jemma!

How would you sum up your team in 3 words?
Happy birthday Jemma!

Who should we be looking out for?

Jemma Riddoch - tall receiver who skied Tom Boyle at VMUC. Intelligent at positioning & reliable with the disc. Also celebrating her 21st birthday just before AMUC.

Chris Waller - known as Muffin because in his own words, he's a ""poor man's Cupcake"". Has the hair, build & some of the throws to match.

Anna Annossovitch is 18, Russian & really enthusiastic about frisbee. She's becoming better at it every day.

Who are you most looking forward to playing?
Friskee, because Max Halden seems like a nice dude & I've rarely had the chance to properly get to know him.

What do you think of the 'endzone decides' rules?
I like how it encourages teams to play 3-4 as a strategic move. HoS supports gender equality & I believe this rule promotes this paradiggum.

If your team was stranded on a desert island and you could only take one other team from AMUC, which would it be and why?
Tasmania is close enough to a desert island, right? Anyway, Friskee, see above
