2018 U24 Day 2 Recap

Official U24 WFDF commentator, Rob Swan, rounds up the action on the second day of play. Teams have their legs under them and are now pushing hard to make bracket play.

MIXED

Day 2 saw play go mostly as expected, with wins usually going to the favourites. Singapore got a universe point win over India, setting the stage for a very tight pool B.

 

Pool A

  • USA 15 - 8 GB

  • GB 15 - 3 Colombia

WOMEN'S

The women's format is a round robin all the way until the final day, when the top 4 go straight to semis and play the final in the afternoon. Australia had a universe point win over Japan in a thrilling match, while the rest of the division went largely as expected. Singapore is looking strong, but standings are far from decided.

MEN'S

Day 2 in the men's division looked close, with some interesting results. Australia showed incredible strength against traditional contenders Canada, but were unable to overcome an early deficit in the afternoon against Germany. USA is dominant in Pool A, but the second place is far from determined.

Streams (in local Perth time):

  • 9am - Japan v Malaysia - Mixed

  • 11am - Phillipines v Singapore - Women's

  • 1pm - Switzerland v China - Men's

  • 3pm - Japan v Canada - Women's

Japan v Canada Women's

Japan and Canada are two of the stronger teams in the division, and with Japan having lost to Australia today, they will need a win to be certain of a semi finals spot. Canada will be looking to continue a winning streak against the defending champions.
